Particle Accelerator CERN, Cessy/Geneva, Switzerland
Service period: approx. 2018 – 2023
Client: CERN (EU Organization for Nuclear Research)
Project objective: Expansion of the particle accelerator “High-Luminosity LHC” to significantly increase luminosity; construction of new civil engineering structures and underground galleries at Point 5 (CMS detector), including complex works within an active research environment.
Project scope: Civil and structural works under demanding geological and operational conditions; special foundation engineering, shafts, galleries, and complex interfaces between construction, plant systems, and research operations.

Our Services:
-
Quantity surveying, construction accounting, and contract/claims management according to FIDIC (English/French)
-
Evaluation of additional cost and change notifications, defense against unjustified claims
-
Use of digital tools (iTWO, ThinkProject, SAP, Primavera P6) for cost, schedule, and document management
-
Consulting on contractual risks and proactive proposals for mitigation measures
Result:
Our early structuring of claims and accounting processes, combined with clear interface coordination, reduced claim risks and ensured transparency between construction teams, plant suppliers, and the research unit.

FAIR – Darmstadt (Germany)
GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research
/
Service period: 2015 – ongoing (phased commissioning until approx. 2030)
Client: FAIR GmbH / GSI
Project objective: Development of a large-scale international research facility for antiproton and ion research; extensive civil engineering and plant construction works including ring and linear accelerators as well as experimental areas.
Project scope: Earthworks involving millions of cubic meters of soil, thousands of cubic meters of reinforced concrete, highly complex construction and technical structures (building services, technical gases, climate/ventilation systems) in a cutting-edge research environment.

Our Services:
-
Claims management and cost control for mechanical and technical trades (building services, technical media)
-
Process analyses and optimization of document-related and cost-related workflows
-
Implementation and maintenance of digital systems (ThinkProject, iTWO, SAP/BI)
-
Contract and schedule risk consulting as well as support in preparing change and additional cost notifications
Result:
Through structured management of cost- and schedule-relevant changes in a highly complex environment, we achieved improved documentation of time and cost impacts and enabled efficient project progression.
